Watching the London Olympics has put me in a Tweedy Mood….. Part 2

There are many images that come to one’s mind when thinking of England……. as a bird hunter I can’t get the country life and the Englishman’s love for his dogs out of my mind.

These are not Yappers; content with sitting on your lap and sleeping the day away. The Sporting dog is truly Man’s best friend, ready at a moment’s notice to take to the fields and woods…. and always there to greet you with a wagging tail when you arrive home!  There should be an Olympic Event for these great athletes!

Oliver Kite – Master Flyfisherman

We’re huge fans of Oliver Kite, an English sportsman who broadcast a literate Fly Fishing show in England during the 60′s. Whenever we discover a forgotten episode, we like to share. As style mavens we are always interested in the classic English looks of the day.

Enjoy!

Welcome Back Old Friend

For a time in the 90′s this was my favorite sport coat, a pleated belted back, bellows pocket, 2btn coat by Samuelsohn.

Then a terrible thing happened—– I gained weight and moved up a size. Each time I cleaned out the closet for the Disabled Veterans I would put my hand on this coat only to draw it away—– back in my mind I believed I would lose weight and be able to wear this old favorite again.

And it happened—– with the addition of a walking partner I began a daily regiment of exercise and a better job of watching what I ate—–lost weight and a size—- and now I have welcomed this classic back into my wardrobe. Looks great with cords, khakis and jeans—– along with gab trousers—– hopefully it will stay around for many years.

Peyton, my walking partner.

Tradition & Heritage Lives in These American Made Menswear Lines

There is no doubt the American Apparel Industry has taken a major hit over the last 30 years as production has followed the allure of cheap labor overseas. However, with a little bit of effort, men can find manufacturers who still value the craftsmanship of the American worker and place a high importance of keeping jobs in this country. Here are just a few.

Send me your list of American Made Apparel.

Hardwick Clothes, 131 year old family owned tailored clothing maker in Tennessee.

Allen Edmonds, Wisconsin maker of fine footwear

Gitman Brothers Shirtmakers, est. 1978 and made in U.S.A.

Taylor Supply Co, made in New York City and drawing inspiration from the 1930′s through the 1950′s
